You need to select from a source that is more rigorous about cataloging the entire scope of tech startup failures. TC doesn't claim to do this. As was mentioned before, their bias is toward mentioning the failures that they feel are worth talking about (which they should).

Re: Startup Failures On The Rise

UPDATE: 9 additions to the deadpool in December and just 4 so far in January. That's well below the 17 in December 2007 but on pace to beat the 10 in January 2008.

Re: Startup Failures On The Rise

Unless TC has become meaner or more alarmist over time, what ever his bias is shouldn't matter. The point is that TC is posting more companies to the Deadpool now than previously.

Re: Startup Failures On The Rise

I'm not sure it makes sense to put acquired companies in DeadPool since it depends on the terms. I otherwise agree that 2009 will likely be a tough year.

Re: Startup Failures On The Rise

expect that number to go up big time.. all startups and VCs should read this post

http://tinyurl.com/6zsaz7

Allways be selling - some VCs who sit on boards that don't have any sales or marketing experience should be removed. I know of a few VCs (one in particular ) who claim to operational gurus but the only way to help a startup in this environment is to drive the top line.

You can only manage the bottom line for so long - drive the top line and you drive to success...

Entrepreneurs: if your VC can't grok the sales process then start thinking shut down

Re: Startup Failures On The Rise

You chose a really bad and biased source. TC is known for being a mean alarmist and Arrington tends to add companies to deadpool that are NOT really dead but he wants them to be. So yeah, take this whole post with a gigantic disclaimer.
